Another Event Gains Momentum

Hi folks, It’s half a lifetime to October but by then we could be clear of all the restrictions….hopefully. Which means that the River Dart Laidback Weekend, postponed from last year, will go ahead all being well.  Because of the expected surge in UK staycation holidays, it will be smart to book accommodation ASAP. A NEW DATE FOR WANDERERFEST 2021

The Government announced on February 22 that all Covid restrictions are due to be lifted as from June 21 – let’s hope there is no postponement. Your National Committee realised that the original dates (June 9 – 13) would have required no more than 30 Wanderer folk attending, social distancing, and masks.      WandererFest is not the sort of event where social distancing and masks can be comfortably coped with to comply with the regulations.       Thanks to a lot of checking of this and that, involving Robin Gabbitas and Ray Tennant, including High Water times, the availability of the field at Cobnor, the use of the Bosham SC facilities at Cobnor, the marquee, and our own special loos, it is with great relief that we can announce that WANDERERFEST 2021 will now take place between THURSDAY and SUNDAY JULY 8 and 11. Arnside Weekend Wander 21

Racing and Cruising in the River Kent Estuary A new Wanderer event is due to take place at Arnside in August. The village is located in Cumbria on the scenic Kent Estuary south of Kendal. There are view across the estuary to the Lake District Fells. With a wide south west facing estuary, Arnside is a great place to sail. Winds tend to be stronger but more constant than on an inland water. A sea breeze may develop around midday. Tide against wind can result in exciting sailing conditions.  The village has a long history of sailing. The estuary was the port for Kendal. The village’s first sailing club was set up in 1852.  Arthur Ransome’s Swallow was built in the village and later kept on the estuary by a local teenager. Another of Arthur’s boat Coch-y-bonddhu was used to teaching sailing at a prep school on the sea front.

Try-A-Wanderer 2021

Join us in Marlow, which is the home club for John and Jenny Renouf, the Chariman and Membership Secretary, to have a go sailing a Wanderer on the Thames. It is probably the most relaxed club in the country on the grassy banks upstream from Bisham Abbey. Launching and recovery is a doddle. There is no fixed agenda….. we tinker with our boats and exchange tips and then have some fun sailing which starts when someone shouts “Go”.

CANCELLED: Wanderer – Wayfarer Racing Weekend

This is fast-becoming our opening event for the season. Join the Wayfarer fleet for the first race meeting of the 2021 season.  WOSC is a remarkably friendly and cooperative club which manages racing quietly and efficiently from the onshore race-box. The bacon sarnies are delicious. Camping, motor-homing on site.
