WandererFest 2022 by Richard Maltby

You will not get better than this: four days blessed by glorious sunshine, a consistent sea breeze each day as if switched on for boats to go sailing, high water in the afternoon, great company, adventure, and the peaceful enjoyment of Cobnor Point for camping. The highlight of the WCOA programme, WandererFest attracted more than 30 Wanderers and two Gulls (owned by WCOA members), and more than 60 sailors. We had a fantastic time. Wanderer West 2022 – a report of the event

A new event for the WCOA calendar this year was Wanderer West. The event ran from Tuesday 14th to Friday 17th June and was based at Coastland Life in Mylor, near Falmouth.   Our exclusive use of the venue provided us with camping and campervan pitches all with electric hook-up – to keep the milk (beer) cold while we were out sailing. Excellent washroom facilities, communal kitchen, and communal decked area were made full use of by participants. -0-0-0-0- A report by Paul Dufton and Linda Wallsgrove We had a great time on WandererWest 2022! We arrived at the venue, Coastland, a day early as did a number of others, in order to maximise the return for our long journey down from Yorkshire.  We had a warm welcome from Coastland’s Tom and settled in to our campervan pitch before starting to rig our dinghy.  It was lovely to met John and

Event Update August 2022

I am afraid this is a disappointing Update…..at least to start with. It has become sadly evident that we have no alternative but to cancel the 2022 National Championships scheduled for September 17/18 at Bewl. At six weeks’ notice, no suitable alternative venue can be adequately arranged. Earlier this year the Committee Boat at Bewl capsized.   Recovery has occurred but Mark Munday (who ably organizes our events there) says it is now unlikely to be serviceable in time for our event.  The alternative is a fixed race hut start and finish line but it is far from suitable since there is a considerable reduction in the certainty of a windward start.  On top of this the water level at Bewl was shown at 64% on July 28 (Southern Water has, worryingly, not updated the level since) and the weather forecast for the rest of August is not indicating any serious

Spring 2022

In ten days time our 2022 Inland Championships will again be hosted by Cotswold SC over the weekend of May 14/15.   Please see here the Notice of Race. For those of you who are new to our class association, please do not be put off by thinking this event is only for out and out racers.  All levels of skill and experience are most welcome and the best way of sharpening up your sailing skills is to sail with other Wanderers.  Our racing is friendly but still competitive. Last September we held our inaugural meeting at Cotswold SC – indeed it was our 2021 Inland Championships –  and this venue must be one of the prettiest inland sailing clubs in the country.     Wanderers Leonie Johnson (who is the club’s Commodore) and Lindsay Weatherley know how to put on a great event as well as being active racers and cruisers in
