Wanderer Class Owners’ Association (WCOA) Open Races at Whitstable Yacht Club, 29th and 30th June 2024 for the Gavin Barr trophy by Amanda Tickner, Elizabeth Doggart and Richard Maltby. Wanderer West: June 2024 by Andrew Powell (abridged) Well, here I am again, writing about the fabulous time we had in Cornwall at Wanderer West. For three consecutive years we have stayed at Coastland’s campsite so I will start by listing all the reasons this site is the ideal place to base a dinghy event: 1. Coastland is a campsite dedicated to people who enjoy water sports. The simple fact that you can store, rig and launch your boat from the field adjacent to where you camp means my non-sailing wife can go off in the car with my crew’s non-sailing wife, and explore the lovely country-side, makes it a great holiday for all of us. 2. The campsite is lovely: you wake to look out on the beautiful River Fal, and the facilities are well-thought-out and beautifully maintained. Races at Grafham Water Sailing Club, May 25th and 26th 2024, by Dave Bardwell The Wanderer fleet gathered for their inaugural Open Meeting at Grafham Water Sailing Club over the weekend of 25th and 26th of May. Saturday afternoon initially provided shifty light breezes from the West North-West, backing as the wind speed steadily increased. This caused the Race Officer to shift marks between the four scheduled 45-minute duration back-to-back races. The three-lap course had four marks laid, with a beat, a tight two-sail starboard reach, a broad starboard three-sail “runny” reach, then a gybe onto a tight port three-sail reach before a beat through the committee boat gate. In the first race, Colin and Sally Gilbert in 1819 enjoyed the best start, and they led at the first mark by four or five boat lengths from Ian Simpson and Dave Bardwell in 1004, who then broached on the following

Wanderer Scotland 18th, 19th and 20th May 2024 at Carry Farm, near Tighnabruaich, Kyles of Bute, report by Leonie Griffin (abridged) The beautiful Kyles of Bute beckoned Wanderers to meet up for the first Scottish Wanderer Association event North of the border, at Carry Farm. This is situated on the remote Ardlamont Peninsula, a finger of the Cowl Peninsula, Argyll. This is between an ancient hazel woodland and the shores of the Kyles of Bute. It is run by Derek and Fiona and family. Derek runs the excellent Tighnabruaich Sailing School Five boats signed up for the event, with sailors from as far afield as Kent, Lincolnshire and Cumbria joining the local sailors from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
