Cobnor Cruising and Coaching

CRUISING Sailors returning to the rural tranquility and natural beauty of Cobnor Point will be well accustomed to the arrangements for camping and cruising.  After a year’s absence, we are delighted to be welcomed back to the Cobnor Estate by the new manager Holly Baker and owner Diana Beale. Hot showers will now be provided. We have the full week from Sunday September 1st to Sunday September 8th with exclusive use of the site to camp and sail for any or all of the days. Tides are favourable for day cruising.  Cruising will take place each day, Monday to Saturday, on the principle of cruising-in-company (with free sailing on either Sunday), subject to the weather and preference. As there will be no support boat sailors should be competent and equipped to sail independently in marine conditions. We will start with a briefing at 10 am to be on the water

West Oxfordshire Race Report 2022

Report from Adam Wickenden It’s not usually this windy here they claimed.     Hmmmm. The Wanderer fleet heard the same thing last time they were at WOSC when Storm Hannah blew through. The brisk easterlies forecast only discouraged two entries from turning up, leaving five hardy crews to enjoy the delight of Wanderer racing and the Wanderer tradition of after sail food. Everybody (yes, everybody) also partook in the very un-Wanderer sport of swimming! Oh, we also had a fleet of Wayfarers to dodge – it was their Southern Area championships. Their presence turned out to be very useful, starting five minutes before us. ‘Follow the Wayfarers’ became the best way of sussing out WOSC’s complicated courses round its 11 basic blue cans, let alone different coloured buoys as special one-off marks. Saturday. We started with the Event Coordinator’s ‘build a Wanderer Challenge’. A long-term project, a bit like

The 2022 season finally kicks off next month with a two-day racing event hosted by West Oxfordshire SC over the weekend after Easter….April 23/24. Wanderer – Wayfarer Racing Weekend 22 The venue is just south of Witney and with reasonably convenient access the A34, A420, and further away, the M40 and the M4.     Motorhomes and caravans can be conveniently sited at the club. I have previously circulated a Notice of Race and it is again attached to the link above. WHAT I REALLY NEED TO NOW IS……..    WHO’S COMING ? Please let me know with a brief email or complete the online form. It helps our hosts to make appropriate plans, and I need to know how many of you will be coming to the Wanderer Fleet supper at The Blue Boar at Longworth on the Saturday evening.    (Menu choices will be made when you arrive on Saturday morning.)

Event Update June 2021

Following the Downing Street announcement on the 14th June postponing Step 4 scheduled for June 21, I am pleased to report that the next two WCOA events – Whitstable and WandererFest – the first since September 2019, excluding the AGMs – will be going ahead.   Firstly, Richard reports from Whitstable YC: The continuing restrictions will not be a problem for sailing or club social life under the May 18 provisions. I will notify visitors coming to WYC for the June 26 Open as to the club’s arrangements prior to the event.  Please use this link for the current situation at the club. Gavin Barr Trophy Race 2021 Secondly, the WandererFest organizing team had a Zoom meeting last week to consider all the elements of WandererFest and agreed to proceed with the event.  It appears that there is nothing to change the conclusion that we reached last week, namely that WandererFest can go ahead with some generally common-sense
