Wanderer (North) Ullswater

The event is based at Ullswater Yacht Club on the quiet road to Howtown on the north east side of the lake. We plan daily cruises to places such as Howtown, Aira Force and Glenridding at the head of the lake with perhaps an odd race.. With Hellevyn raising above the lake, Ullswater is seen by many as the most scenic lake. There will be a full programme of evening social events. Facilities at Ullswater Yacht Club are excellent. There is camping on site with hotels, bed and breakfast, caravan and self catering accommodation nearby. Due to planning conditions camper vans can only stay at the club on Friday and Saturday nights on the Birkett Fields, but there are two caravan sites which all but next door.   Bookings   The day rate is £30 per person a day, with camping at £20 a night (camper vans £25). The price reflects the excellent facilities at the

Please let me know with a brief email or complete the online form. It helps our hosts to make appropriate plans, and I need to know how many of you will be coming to the Wanderer Fleet supper at The Blue Boar at Longworth on the Saturday evening.    (Menu choices will be made when you arrive on Saturday morning.)

Try-A-Wanderer 2022

Join us in Marlow, which is the home club for John and Jenny Renouf, the Chariman and Membership Secretary, to have a go sailing a Wanderer on the Thames. This is the ideal opportunity for non- members to either meet the association or try sailing a Wanderer. Marlow SC is probably the most relaxed in the country on the grassy banks of the Thames, just upstream from Bisham Abbey. Launching and recovery is a doddle, perfect for beginners and experienced crews. There is no fixed agenda….. we tinker with our boats and exchange tips and then have some fun sailing which starts when someone shouts “Go”. More details from John Renouf – 1953jgr@gmail.com

Event Update June 2021

Following the Downing Street announcement on the 14th June postponing Step 4 scheduled for June 21, I am pleased to report that the next two WCOA events – Whitstable and WandererFest – the first since September 2019, excluding the AGMs – will be going ahead.   Firstly, Richard reports from Whitstable YC: The continuing restrictions will not be a problem for sailing or club social life under the May 18 provisions. I will notify visitors coming to WYC for the June 26 Open as to the club’s arrangements prior to the event.  Please use this link for the current situation at the club. Gavin Barr Trophy Race 2021 Secondly, the WandererFest organizing team had a Zoom meeting last week to consider all the elements of WandererFest and agreed to proceed with the event.  It appears that there is nothing to change the conclusion that we reached last week, namely that WandererFest can go ahead with some generally common-sense
