Event Update June 2021

Following the Downing Street announcement on the 14th June postponing Step 4 scheduled for June 21, I am pleased to report that the next two WCOA events – Whitstable and WandererFest – the first since September 2019, excluding the AGMs – will be going ahead.   Firstly, Richard reports from Whitstable YC: The continuing restrictions will not be a problem for sailing or club social life under the May 18 provisions. I will notify visitors coming to WYC for the June 26 Open as to the club’s arrangements prior to the event.  Please use this link for the current situation at the club. Gavin Barr Trophy Race 2021 Secondly, the WandererFest organizing team had a Zoom meeting last week to consider all the elements of WandererFest and agreed to proceed with the event.  It appears that there is nothing to change the conclusion that we reached last week, namely that WandererFest can go ahead with some generally common-sense

A NEW DATE FOR WANDERERFEST 2021

The Government announced on February 22 that all Covid restrictions are due to be lifted as from June 21 – let’s hope there is no postponement. Your National Committee realised that the original dates (June 9 – 13) would have required no more than 30 Wanderer folk attending, social distancing, and masks.      WandererFest is not the sort of event where social distancing and masks can be comfortably coped with to comply with the regulations.       Thanks to a lot of checking of this and that, involving Robin Gabbitas and Ray Tennant, including High Water times, the availability of the field at Cobnor, the use of the Bosham SC facilities at Cobnor, the marquee, and our own special loos, it is with great relief that we can announce that WANDERERFEST 2021 will now take place between THURSDAY and SUNDAY JULY 8 and 11. This is line with the guidance agreed at the

WandererFest 2021

UPDATE: This event has been postponed, the date above is the new date. This is the premier event of the Wanderer calendar and attracts the largest number of WCOA members and crew to Cobnor Field on the southern tip of the entrance to Bosham Channel. Come for a day or two or stay for the complete event – no problem. The WandererFest site is on the private Cobnor Estate and a perfect location for our caravans, motor- homes, and tents. There are B & Bs and hotels nearby for those of us who prefer a decent mattress. Daily cruises – choose from a shortish one to a longish one – are organised by Cruise Master Ray Tennant – with Emsworth, East Head, Prinstead, Dell Quay, and Bosham among the various destinations hopefully with a hostelry or ice cream stall nearby. There are ample opportunities to exchange rigging and sailing tips

Somerset In Devon

Family cruising in Salcombe Harbour and creeks By Leonie Johnson Leonie and Bea sailing in the Bag – Neil Delmas So welcome was our two week post-lockdown break in a cottage in Frogmore; a small village at the head of one of the longer creaks, or ‘ria’ to give it it’s proper name.  I rose to the Chair’s challenge and risked getting my iPhone out whilst onboard Somerset to film our adventures – boat number 1800, and the third Wanderer I’ve had the great privilege of sailing in Salcombe. You can watch the short video (my first!) edited using iMovie on the Wanderer Association’s Facebook page.  These are some of the adventures that didn’t quite make the cut…..
