<p>Self bailers will empty water after a capsize… BUT they only work when the hull is moving fast enough through the water – if the hull is stationary they will let the water in, not out (even though they have a non-return flap) – so probably best to carry a bucket or bailer on board so that the bulk of the water can be scooped out – this will lighten the boat, make it more maneuverable and make it easier to get up to speed so that the bailers start to work to suck out the rest of the water from under the floorboards</p>
