SUMMARY:Arnside Wanderer Dinghy Event Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd May
DESCRIPTION:Location – Ashmeadow Slipway\, Promenade\, Arnside LA1 0AD\n \nA chance for Wanderer Dinghy Owners to sail in the scenic estuary at Arnside in Cumbria. \nWe plan running a race on one day and a cruise out into Morecambe Bay towards Holme Island and Grange-over-Sands on the other. \nThere are three Wanderers kept at the Club\, including two club boats. \nWe plan to meet up in a local pub on Saturday after sailing and on Sunday in the Club’s historic Club House in old customs bonded warehouse. On Saturday night there is a concert by Chris James an award winning blue’s guitarist. To book https://www.tickettailor.com/events/arnsidesailingclub/2153938 \n  \nWanderers at Arnside \nArnside \nArnside is located on the Kent Estuary south of Kendal in the Arnside-Silverdale National Scenic Area. The estuary opens out into Morecambe Bay. There are outstanding views across the estuary to the Lake District Hills. Arnside grew up as a scenic holiday resort in the nineteenth century after the opening of the railway with water- based activities as one of its attractions. The railway crosses the estuary on a viaduct above the village. \nArnside has a long sailing history. Historically the estuary was the port for Kendal. The Victorians held regattas. The village’s first Sailing Club was set up in 1857. Crossfields built Morecambe Bay Prawners and yachts in the village from the 1840s to the 1940s. Arthur Ransome’s Swallow was built in Arnside and kept on the estuary by local teenager in the 1930s. \nThe tide often comes in with a Bore. This is followed by a two-to-three-hour sailing window. Winds tend to fairly consistent compared to an inland lake especially if there is a sea breeze. Tide against wind can create exciting sailing conditions. \nThe area is good for walking. Arnside Knott\, one of the best viewpoints in the country overlooks the village and there is an excellent path along the coast. If the weather is unsuitable there are nearby historic houses and museums to visit \n \nArnside Sailing Club \nThe current Arnside Sailing Club was set up in 1958. It has around 300 members including partners and children. The Club offers sailing\, paddleboarding and kayak. It is affiliated to both the RYA and Paddle UK and is a RYA Training Centre at Killington near Sedbergh. The Clubhouse is in a historic customs bonded warehouse on the Promenade is used for live music. \nFor more info www.arnsidesailingclub.co.uk \nCrewing Opportunities \nIf you do not plan bringing your own boat there might be crewing opportunities\, so do get in touch.. \nPrice £20 per person for the weekend \nBooking is via Arnside Sailing Club’s booking site \nhttps://widget.eola.co/1222/activities/arnside-wanderer-dinghy-event \nFor more information \nContact alasdairsimpson@arnsidesailingclub.org.uk

SUMMARY:WandererFest 2025
DESCRIPTION:CRUISING \nSailors returning to the rural tranquility and natural beauty of Cobnor Point will be well accustomed to the arrangements for camping and cruising.  We are delighted to be welcomed back to the Cobnor Estate. Hot showers and hired loos will be provided.  Bookings can be made from Sunday July 13th\, fleet cruising starts on Tuesday 15th July to Friday 18th July with the option of a “Sunset” race with Bosham SC on the evening of Friday 18th July. Members depart Saturday 19th July. We have exclusive use of the site to camp and sail for any or all of the days. Tides are favourable for day cruising. \n Cruising on the principle of cruising-in-company will take place on each day Tuesday to Friday.  As there will be no support boat sailors should be competent and equipped to sail independently in marine conditions. We will start with a briefing at 10 am to be on the water by 11 am. Destinations may include Dell Quay\, East Head\, Thorney\, Emsworth and Langstone. Or do your own pottering. The slipway has an electronic winch for recovery of boats. There is also the option of taking part in the Bosham S.C. evening race on Friday 18th July. \nFor camping\, tents or motorhomes\, select a pitch in the field known as Wood Park North and South. Campers should park their cars in the field. The visitor car park field to the left of the lane on arrival is the place\, nearest to the shore\, also to park boats. There are  loos and showers located near the boat park and we will also have hired loos in the camp field. The “pavilion” next to the launch area will be available for use of the fridge\, brewing tea or coffee\, or for watching\, with thanks to Bosham SC for the use. No cooking however is permitted in the pavilion.   \nSelf-catering will again be the norm. Members may also enjoy rambling around the lovely country and coastal walks. Dogs are welcome so long as your dog doesn’t bark a lot\, is under control at all times and poop in the camping field is scooped. The local pub at Chidham may well be the focus of evening activities. A torch is useful at night! \nTickets for all bookings for WandererFest are purchased online.  \nYou can purchase tickets below for the event. SUMMARY:Arnside Weekend Wander 21
DESCRIPTION:Racing and Cruising in the River Kent Estuary\nA new Wanderer event is due to take place at Arnside in August. The village is located in Cumbria on the scenic Kent Estuary south of Kendal. There are view across the estuary to the Lake District Fells. \nWith a wide south west facing estuary\, Arnside is a great place to sail. Winds tend to be stronger but more constant than on an inland water. A sea breeze may develop around midday. Tide against wind can result in exciting sailing conditions.  The village has a long history of sailing. The estuary was the port for Kendal. The village’s first sailing club was set up in 1852.  Arthur Ransome’s Swallow was built in the village and later kept on the estuary by a local teenager. Another of Arthur’s boat Coch-y-bonddhu was used to teaching sailing at a prep school on the sea front. \nOverlooked by Arnside Knott\, at 522 feet high the country’s lowest Marilyn\, the village lies in the Arnside Silverdale Area of Natural Beauty at top end of Morecambe Bay. The area is characterised by low wooded limestone hills interspersed with flower rich meadows\, making for good walking. Arnside Knott is one of the best sites for butterflies in the North of England. \nArnside developed as a gentile holiday resort after the arrival of the railway in 1857\, which crosses the estuary on a viaduct 552 yards long. Sirens warn of the incoming tidal bore.  The village regularly appears in best places to live lists\, including the Sunday Times 2021 list which mentioned the friendly sailing club. There are several places to stay in village\, including Air BNB and nearby camp sites. \nThe Sailing Club increased its membership by 50% in 2020 partly as result of being able to offer training at low tide and through the introduction of paddle board. The Club owns a Wanderer and a Wayfarer. There is another Wanderer in club which belongs to Alasdair Simpson. Other club boats include Hartley 12s. \nDepending on the weather we hope to be able to arrange racing on one day and a cruise to Holme Island off Grange-over- Sands on the other day. Whilst there is only a two to three hour window at high tide when the water is deep enough to sail\, with distinctive landmarks on either side of the estuary it is possible to feel that you are sailing somewhere. When not sailing there will opportunities to walk along the coast\, climb Arnside Knott\, canoe or paddleboard at low tide. There should be a chance to meet in local pubs for a meal in the evening. \nOn Sunday evening there will be a concert by Luna\, a folk duo from Sunderland Point\, a village at the mouth of the River Lune\, south of Lancaster which is cut off at high tide. Luna are Jo Powell and Scotty Wilson\, a fellow Wanderer sailor. \nFor more Information and book a place please use the RSVP below. \nView of the shore from the water.
