DESCRIPTION:Wanderer North – Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September 2025 \nDerwentwater Marina\, Portinscale\, Keswick\, Cumbria\, CA12 5RF \n \nEnjoy three days late summer sailing on Derwentwater\, one of the Lake District’s most iconic lakes. Overlooked by Skiddaw with the Cats Bell ridge to the west the scenery is simply stunning. \nWe will be based at Derwentwater Marina at the north end of the lake. Each day we hope to sail to a beach for a picnic lunch. Alternatively\, there are beaches with a café or pub nearby which we can walk to. SUMMARY:WandererFest 2025
DESCRIPTION:CRUISING \nSailors returning to the rural tranquility and natural beauty of Cobnor Point will be well accustomed to the arrangements for camping and cruising.  We are delighted to be welcomed back to the Cobnor Estate. Hot showers and hired loos will be provided.  Bookings can be made from Sunday July 13th\, fleet cruising starts on Tuesday 15th July to Friday 18th July with the option of a “Sunset” race with Bosham SC on the evening of Friday 18th July. Members depart Saturday 19th July. We have exclusive use of the site to camp and sail for any or all of the days. Tides are favourable for day cruising. \n Cruising on the principle of cruising-in-company will take place on each day Tuesday to Friday.  As there will be no support boat sailors should be competent and equipped to sail independently in marine conditions. We will start with a briefing at 10 am to be on the water by 11 am. Destinations may include Dell Quay\, East Head\, Thorney\, Emsworth and Langstone. Or do your own pottering. The slipway has an electronic winch for recovery of boats. There is also the option of taking part in the Bosham S.C. evening race on Friday 18th July. \nFor camping\, tents or motorhomes\, select a pitch in the field known as Wood Park North and South. Campers should park their cars in the field. The visitor car park field to the left of the lane on arrival is the place\, nearest to the shore\, also to park boats. There are  loos and showers located near the boat park and we will also have hired loos in the camp field. The “pavilion” next to the launch area will be available for use of the fridge\, brewing tea or coffee\, or for watching\, with thanks to Bosham SC for the use. No cooking however is permitted in the pavilion.   \nSelf-catering will again be the norm. Members may also enjoy rambling around the lovely country and coastal walks. Dogs are welcome so long as your dog doesn’t bark a lot\, is under control at all times and poop in the camping field is scooped. The local pub at Chidham may well be the focus of evening activities. Facilities at Ullswater Yacht Club are excellent. There is camping on site with hotels\, bed and breakfast\, caravan and self catering accommodation nearby. Due to planning conditions camper vans can only stay at the club on Friday and Saturday nights on the Birkett Fields\, but there are two caravan sites which all but next door.\n \nBookings\n \nThe day rate is £30 per person a day\, with camping at £20 a night (camper vans £25). DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately WandererFest 2024 has been cancelled. \nOwing to the exceptional high tide\, low pressure and storm force wind experienced over the night of 8th – 9th April the sea came over the seawall at Mengeham Rythe SC\, flooding the club house and campus to a depth of 8 feet. Property\, equipment\, boats and facilities have suffered extensive damage submerged by the sea water lake.  Although the clean-up has started\, the club will not be in a position to host the event  this year. Our thoughts are very much with Melvyn Powell and MRSC volunteer members\, some of whom have also suffered flood damage to their homes\, as they set about the task. \nMembers with bookings will be issued a refund.

DESCRIPTION:WandererEast – three days of sail cruising in Whitstable Bay\,\nthe Swale estuary and creeks\n30th August – 1st September 2023 \n(Visitors are welcome to arrive during the afternoon or evening of Tuesday 29th August) \n  \n  \nAbout Whitstable   \n A seaside town\, just 55 miles from London\, 7 miles from Canterbury\, Whitstable has retained its unique charm\, famous for its oysters\, working harbour\, maritime heritage\, stunning sunsets across the Swale estuary\, boat building and sailing. There is entertainment and local art on display all over town.   \nThe town is criss-crossed by numerous small alleys\, notably Squeeze Gut Alley which everyone needs to try. The Old Neptune PH nearby\, known as the “Neppy” is not next to the beach or by it\, but actually stands right on the beach.   \n   \nWhitstable Yacht Club (WYC)\, founded in 1902 next to the harbour for racing smacks and barges\, is today one of the largest clubs in England. Many national and international championships have been held at WYC. The club offers sailing for dinghies\, catamarans and windsurfers\, with yacht moorings in nearby creeks.  The Wanderer group at the club comprises 8 boats.  \nFor more information about Whitstable YC visit the club web site: www.wyc.org.uk  \n  \nAbout the Isle of Sheppey and the Swale estuary \nThe Swale estuary\, between the Isle of Sheppey and mainland Kent\, is both highy attractive for dinghy cruising and is also wonderfully uncrowded by other craft. In this corner of the North Sea\, sailors can be at one with nature in a picture-perfect locations.  \nThe Swale is well named as much of the Isle of Sheppey and the coastal fringes of mainland Kent is marshland where great swathes of land have national and international protection. The marshes attract a huge bird population including a number of rare species. Seals flourish on the banks of the Swale. DESCRIPTION:We have received the following invitation for members of WCOA to join with the Wayfarer Association at their summer gathering in August. Please see further details below and book via the email address given. \n-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0- \nThe UK Wayfarer Association offers a very warm welcome to all Wanderer Class Owners Association members for our summer event and Wayfarer Gathering at Rutland;  7th – 13th August 2023 \nThis years’ Wayfarer Gathering at Rutland Sailing Club is something to look forward to. This is a great event for families and it is lovely seeing all the children enjoying themselves. \nAt the start of the week there will be people on hand to assist you with your boat set up and perhaps a bit of coaching to hone your skills. On Thursday we will be sailing to a picnic spot and there will be a RIB in attendance. There may even be hot dogs on offer. \nThat’s all that is planned at the moment but of course you do not have to take part in any of it. Everything is optional\, even beer o’clock which is an opportunity to meet everyone. DESCRIPTION:4 days of cruising in the natural beauty of Chichester harbour from our new venue at Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club\, Hayling Island.\n\n\n\nThis is the premier event of the Wanderer calendar and attracts a large number of WCOA members and spouses. Come for a day or two or stay for the complete event – no problem. This year the event is being held at a new venue in Chichester Harbour – Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club\, Hayling Island – where there will be space for caravans\, motor-homes\, and tents. There are B &amp; Bs and hotels nearby for those of us who prefer a decent mattress. \n\nWith grateful thanks to WCOA and MRSC member Melvyn Powell and John Barnett\, Commodore MRSC\, our agreement with the club allows for 30 boats (plus MRSC member boats) and to date (June 27th ) 14 boats have booked. If you have booked\, please read this update for FURTHER INFORMATION about the event.\nFor information about Mengeham Rythe SC and directions\, please use this link:\nMengeham Rythe Sailing Club: Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club useful links \nCharges\nWe have simplified WandererFest charges to a single charge of £20.50 per boat/night (whether the owner is staying on or off site). There is ample room at the club for up to 30 boats with associated tent and motorhome pitches and the 24 hour/day use of club facilities. At least one sailor per boat must be a WCOA member and he/she is responsible for the booking. The price is inclusive of a tent or campervan pitch\, car parking and full use of club toilets\, changing\, shower\, utensil washing and bar facilities\, 24 hours/day. WCOA participants will have temporary membership of MGRS for the event. \n\nDay Charge – for a boat arriving and departing on the same day: £10. \n\nChichester harbour boat dues (if needed) and the support of a club RIB will be paid for by the Wanderer Class Owners’ Association. \n\nAll bookings should be made online by the closing date of 15th July – details below. \nProgramme \n\nWednesday 19th July – Arrivals from 12 noon – no organised sailing\nDay cruises in Chichester harbour to be organised hours around High Water – /+3.5 hours and + 3.5 hours HW:\nThursday 20th: HW 14.00\nFriday 21st: HW 14.48\, Cruise following a technical demonstration and boat inspections by Ian Porter at 10 am.\nSaturday 22nd: HW 15.21\nSunday 23rd (free sailing): HW 15.55 \nAll to depart by Sunday 23rd 18.00\n\n Sailing Plan \n\nTo recognise a range of sailing ability among participants and to avoid 30 boats all trying to arrive at the same destination together! . . .\nCruises will be organised each day by two fleets\, one for sailors experienced in sailing in marine waters unaccompanied by a support boat\, and the other for a fleet accompanied by the support boat (a 5.5 m.\, 50hp RIB).\nEach fleet will have an appointed cruise leader for the day to sail within Chichester harbour as agreed at the briefing.\nThe cruise leader will take a list of boats\, helms and crews\, mobile numbers and/or vhf boat call signs (VHF ch P2) for communication.\nFleets will rig and launch to the agreed time.\nOn the water the cruise leader’s boat will be identifiable by a pennant flown at the masthead.\nPlease express your fleet preference in completing your booking. \n\n\nRecommended Equipment for cruising \n\n\n\nChart (to be supplied) \nBucket for bailing\n\n\nPaddles or oars and/or Bin liner (multi use!)\nOutboard engine (if you have one)\n\n\nCap or hat\nSun block\n\n\nMooring stakes and long line\nMobile phone (in waterproof case)\n\n\nAnchor\, chain and warp Fenders\nVHF hand-held radio\n\n\n\nTag attached to your launch trolley with owner’s name\, sail number and boat name \n  \nEvenings \n\nThursday – barbecue available in the vicinity of the club house (and at other times)\nFriday – club supper (bookings online in advance) – WandererFest 2023 – Wanderer Class Owners Association\nSaturday – curry\, to be delivered to the club by the Bay of Bengal restaurant (bookings at the event) \nWeather permitting\, meals can be outside or in the club house or both.\n\nCamping Advice \n\nNO open fires in the camping area\, the grass is extremely dry\, or anywhere in the 16 acres of MRSC property.\nClub Barbecues may only be used in the site by the club house.\nCampers using a camp stove should have fire extinguishing equipment (e.g. bucket of water)\nThe club is open 7 am to 11 pm; access at night is by fob keys available to WCOA campers.\nWashing up – use the club galley outside meal preparation times.\nThe camping area at night will be very dark\, and the ground a little rough close to the entrances to the field. We advise members to bring a good torch.\nCampervan pitches are served by 4 posts alongside the pond each with 4 16-amp blue single-phase sockets\, as standard. Bring your cable extension.\n\nClub facilities \n\nThere are excellent social\, changing\, shower and toilet facilities in the modern club building. The club is generally open 7 am to 11 pm (or when the bar closes)\, but WandererFest campers will have access at night with fob keys.\nMeals at MRSC can only be paid for in cash. Breakfast is £7 Main meals £10 approx. Breakfast will be available on Saturday and Sunday and lunch on Sunday.\nThere is a cash point at the Co Op store about 15 mins walk from club.\nHowever\, all drinks from the bar can only be paid for by card.\n\nThe bar will be well stocked. Come for a day or two or stay for the complete event – no problem. \nThis is part of the private Cobnor Estate and a perfect location for our caravans\, motor-homes\, and tents. There are B & Bs and hotels nearby for those of us who prefer a decent mattress. \nDaily cruises\nChoose from a shortish one to a longish one – will be organised by a new Cruise Master now that Ray Tennant has stood down – the highlight being the trip south to East Head though the ice cream cruise to Dell Quay SC at the northern end of Chichester Harbour is a favourite. The culinary highlight is the Friday night Curry’n’KormaFest prepared by a local restaurant and served up in Cobnor Field as the sun begins to set. If there is time\, there is the WandererFest Coarse Boules tournament in Cobnor Field which becomes increasingly tense as we approach the Grand Final. I hope Mike Powell will bring his telescope again; seeing Saturn’s rings is quite an experience. \n\n\n\n\nRobin Gabbitas organises two splendid barrels of real beer (£2.50 a pint last time) and it would be great if Barry Lowe can bring his Mongolian Tent alongside our usual main marquee. There are B & Bs and hotels nearby for those of us who prefer a decent mattress. \nDaily cruises – choose from a shortish one to a longish one – are organised by Cruise Master Ray Tennant – with Emsworth\, East Head\, Prinstead\, Dell Quay\, and Bosham among the various destinations hopefully with a hostelry or ice cream stall nearby. \nThere are ample opportunities to exchange rigging and sailing tips and we hope Ian Porter will be able to return yet again with his own unique way of showing how to get the best out of your boat. \nThe culinary highlight is the Saturday night Curry’n’KormaFest prepared by a local restaurant and served up in Cobnor Field as the sun begins to set. \nThere is the WandererFest Coarse Boules knockout tournament in Cobnor Field which becomes increasingly tense as we approach the Grand Final.
