SUMMARY:Arnside Wanderer Dinghy Event Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd May
DESCRIPTION:Location – Ashmeadow Slipway\, Promenade\, Arnside LA1 0AD\n \nA chance for Wanderer Dinghy Owners to sail in the scenic estuary at Arnside in Cumbria. \nWe plan running a race on one day and a cruise out into Morecambe Bay towards Holme Island and Grange-over-Sands on the other. \nThere are three Wanderers kept at the Club\, including two club boats. \nWanderers at Arnside \nArnside \nArnside is located on the Kent Estuary south of Kendal in the Arnside-Silverdale National Scenic Area. The estuary opens out into Morecambe Bay. There are outstanding views across the estuary to the Lake District Hills. Arnside grew up as a scenic holiday resort in the nineteenth century after the opening of the railway with water- based activities as one of its attractions. The railway crosses the estuary on a viaduct above the village. \nArnside has a long sailing history. Historically the estuary was the port for Kendal. The Victorians held regattas. The village’s first Sailing Club was set up in 1857. Crossfields built Morecambe Bay Prawners and yachts in the village from the 1840s to the 1940s. Arthur Ransome’s Swallow was built in Arnside and kept on the estuary by local teenager in the 1930s. \nThe tide often comes in with a Bore. This is followed by a two-to-three-hour sailing window. Winds tend to fairly consistent compared to an inland lake especially if there is a sea breeze. Tide against wind can create exciting sailing conditions. \nThe area is good for walking. Arnside Knott\, one of the best viewpoints in the country overlooks the village and there is an excellent path along the coast. If the weather is unsuitable there are nearby historic houses and museums to visit \n \nArnside Sailing Club \nThe current Arnside Sailing Club was set up in 1958. It has around 300 members including partners and children. The Club offers sailing\, paddleboarding and kayak. It is affiliated to both the RYA and Paddle UK and is a RYA Training Centre at Killington near Sedbergh. DESCRIPTION:Wanderer Scotland – Tighnabruaich  Fri 5 – Sun 7 June \nTighnabruaich Sailing School\, Carry Farm\, Tighnabruaich PA21 2AH \nWanderer Scotland Cruising \n  \nWanderers with Isle of Arran in the background \nJoin for us three days sailing in one of the best dinghy cruising locations in the British Isles. It is well worth the journey.  In each of the last two years\, we had three days of glorious sunshine making for perfect sailing conditions. At Tighnabruaich it gets dark just before 11pm in June. \nWe will be based at Tighnabruaich Sailing School at Carry Farm on the West Kyles four miles south of Tighnabruaich.  The Kyles of Bute separate Bute from the Scottish mainland. They are one of the most scenic areas in Scotland. \nSailing Plans \nView over West Kyle \n\nEach day depending on the weather we plan to make day cruises of 15 to 20 miles stopping at a remote a beach for a picnic lunch. \nFrom Carry Farm\, we can sail in three different directions: \n1. North up the West Kyle to Tighnabruaich and beyond \n2. South round Ardlamont Point then up Loch Fyne to remote beaches \n3. South along the Bute Shore to St Ninan’s Bay or round the Isle of Inchmarnock. \nSailing south from Carry Farm offers the feeling of being out in the open sea. Loch Fyne is 4 miles wide. There are eight miles of water separating us from the Isle of the Arran and its mountains.. We should see plenty of wildlife\, including seals. \nWest Kyle \nFor a short day we could sail across the West Kyle to beaches on the Isle of Bute\, sail to the pub at Kames or stop inTighnabruaich. \nThe Sailing School will be providing safety boat cover for us of each of the three days and sailing advice if needed. Their help and local knowledge have proved invaluable in running the event. Safety boat cover means we can sail further to remote locations than otherwise. \nDiscussing the day’s plans \nCarry Farm \nSituated on the shores of the West Kyle\, the 66 acre\, Carry Farm offers camping\, space for camper vans and four holiday lodges\, all overlooking the sea. The farm has its own beach where you can enjoy a swim in water warmed by the Gulf Stream. There are so showers and laundry facilities. \nThe farm’s animals include rare Hebridean sheep\, goats\, donkeys and hens. Up till 1960s when the road from the west was built\, the steamer was the main means of getting to the village. PSS Waverley still regularly visits the village. There are palm trees in the gardens. The Kyles are popular with yachts. \nOther activities in the area \nThe walk along the shoreside single-track road to Kames is very pleasant. From Tighnabruaich you can walk east along the shore for several miles through woods. Other walks in the area tend to be rougher. Kilbride Beach on the other side of the peninsula is well worth visiting (You could go swimming).Mount Stuart House on the Isle of Bute has a stunning interior and beautiful walled gardens. Benmore Botanic Gardens with their giant redwoods are within driving distance. PortavadieMarina has a spa and swimming pool. From Portavadie\, you can catch the ferry to Tarbet. \nEvening Plans \nEach evening\, we plan to go to a local pub or restaurant. If it is sunny on one day we may have a barbecue on the beach \nCombine the Event with a long holiday in Scotland \nYou could combine the event with a longer holiday in Scotland for example visiting the Isle of Islay with itsdistilleries unspoilt and beaches or climb the Arrochar Alpes to the north. You should be able to leave your boat at the Sailing School during the week \nScottish Wanderer Championship at Cramond\, near Edinburgh June 13/14th \nThe Scottish Wanderer Championship event at Cramond near Edinburgh is the weekend after. You could be the next Scottish National Champion. Cramond featured in the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. \nGetting to Tighnabruaich \nWhilst Tighnabruaich is a long way from anywhere\, it is well worth the drive. Whichever way you come the last part of the drive is very scenic. PENALTY SYSTEM   \n  \nThe penalties are as detailed in RRS 44 except that rule 44.3 shall not apply. \nThe Exoneration penalty (and the Advisory Hearing and RYA Arbitration procedures) \nof the RYA Rules Disputes Procedures will not be available. \n  \n10. SCORING  \n  \n11.1 The Low Point System of Appendix A will apply \n11.2 One race is required to be completed to constitute a series \n11.3 When fewer than 3 races have been completed\, a boat’s series score will be the \ntotal of her race scores. When 3 or more races have been completed\, a boat’s series score will be the total of their race scores excluding her worst score. \n  \n11. SUPPORT BOATS  \n  \nIndividual support boats are not allowed on the water. \n  \n12. RADIO COMMUNICATION  \n  \nExcept in an emergency\, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. \n  \n13. PRIZES  \n  \nPrizes will be awarded to the leading boat and to a number of other boats at the discretion of the organisers. \n  \n14. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY  \n  \nCompetitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4\, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to\, during\, or after the regatta. \nSailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the event\, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that: \n● they are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves\, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event; \n● they are responsible for the safety of themselves\, their crew\, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore; \n● they accept responsibility for any injury\, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions; \n● their boat is in good order\, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate; \n● the provision of a race management team\, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by the organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities; \n● the provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance\, particularly in extreme weather conditions\, as can be practically provided in the circumstances; \n● it is their responsibility to familiarise themselves with any risks specific to this venue or this event referred to in the Sailing Instructions and to attend any safety briefing held at the venue. \n  \n15. DESCRIPTION:For 2026 WandererWest returns to Coastland in Mylor for another great few days of cruising the Carrick Roads and beyond. The organised event runs from Tuesday 16 June with full day sailing on Wednesday\, Thursday and Friday and departing on Saturday 20 June. \n \nBased at Coastland Life\, Mylor Harbour\, for those wishing to stay on site:\n• 13 camping pitches available all with electric available\n• 5 spaces for campervans also with electric hook-up\n• Showers & toilet facilities on site\n• Camper’s Kitchen (with fridge\, microwave\, kettle and sink)\n• Boat park with launching on the site\n• Safety cover will be provided for the main sailing days\n• Extra days may be available to extend your stay. \nThe area is a beautiful place to sail with many lovely destinations in easy reach. \n  \nThe booking process has changed for 2026 in that bookings will be made direct with Coastland. SUMMARY:WandererFest 2026
DESCRIPTION:CRUISING \nBookings can be made from Sunday July 12th\, fleet cruising starts on Tuesday 14th July to Friday 17th July. Members depart Saturday 18th July and may sail during that day. We have exclusive use of the site to camp and sail for any or all of the days. Tides are favourable for day cruising. \n Cruising on the principle of cruising-in-company will take place on each day Tuesday to Friday.  As there will be no support boat sailors should be competent and equipped to sail independently in marine conditions. We will start with a briefing at 10 am to be on the water by 11 am. Destinations may include Dell Quay\, East Head\, Thorney\, Emsworth and Langstone. Or do your own pottering. The slipway has an electronic winch for recovery of boats.  \nFor camping\, tents or motorhomes\, select a pitch in the field known as Wood Park North and South. Campers should park their cars in the field. The visitor car park field to the left of the lane on arrival is the place\, nearest to the shore\, also to park boats. There are  loos and showers located near the boat park and we will also have hired loos in the camp field. The “pavilion” next to the launch area will be available for use of the fridge\, brewing tea or coffee\, or for watching\, with thanks to Bosham SC for the use. No cooking however is permitted in the pavilion.   \nSelf-catering will again be the norm. Members may also enjoy rambling around the lovely country and coastal walks. Dogs are welcome so long as your dog doesn’t bark a lot\, is under control at all times and poop in the camping field is scooped. The local pub at Chidham may well be the focus of evening activities. A torch is useful at night! \nTickets for all bookings for WandererFest are purchased online.  \nYou can purchase tickets below for the event. SUMMARY:Cruising in the Swale
DESCRIPTION:The Swale is a tidal waterway between the Isle of Sheppey and mainland Kent. With extensive salt marshes on both sides\, the Swale forms an area of international importance for birds and nature conservation. From Whitstable our day sails are planned to go with the morning flow and afternoon ebb of the tide to Shellness (3 miles)\, Faversham Creek (6 miles) and Conyer Creek (8 miles). If you love estuary sailing and the solitude that the Swale can offer (although just 55 miles from London)\, it brings its own navigational challenges\, as marked by the relics of many wrecks seen along the shores of the creeks and the Swale itself. Passage plans will be provided. Bookings for any or all of the three days will be through the Whitstable YC website. \n\nCruisers will be welcome to stay for the weekend racing and racers are welcome to book any day for the cruising. DESCRIPTION:The WCOA has again requested holding the Nationals at Whitstable YC. Let us hope that the fantastic conditions of the 2025 event\, shared very happily and successfully with Wayfarers\, may also be reproduced. With afternoon tides in Whitstable Bay there will be two races on the afternoons of each day (one discard of 4 races)\, with the starts shared with the Wayfarers 3 minutes before club series starts. DESCRIPTION:Wanderer North – Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September 2026 \nDerwentwater Marina\, Portinscale\, Keswick\, Cumbria\, CA12 5RF \n \nEnjoy two days late summer sailing on Derwentwater\, one of the Lake District’s most iconic lakes. Overlooked by Skiddaw with the Cats Bell ridge to the west the scenery is simply stunning. \nWe will be based at Derwentwater Marina at the north end of the lake. Each day we hope to sail to a beach for a picnic lunch. Alternatively\, there are beaches with a café or pub nearby which we can walk to.
