Reefing Afloat - One Suggested Method                            by Gavin Barr

Procedure:
Boat is hove to.  Ease out mainsheet and allow sail to flap. A crew member sits forward by the mast on the windward side (in this case starboard). Ease the Kicker.  Ease the main halyard and pull on the after reefing line. Cleat main halyard so that the forward reefing cringle is a few inches above the boom. Pull on the forward reefing line and tension the luff of the mainsail. When convenient fold in the reefed slab of the mainsail and tie in the reefing points. Tension Kicker.
Notes: 1) Boat shown is rigged for heaving to on starboard tack. can equally well be      port, especially if main halyard exits mast on port side.
           2) System can be adapted to reef from either side.
