Salcombe Laidback Weekend - Sept 11th - 13th 2009

Hi folks,

Preparations are well advanced for the Salcombe Laidback Weekend from Friday night September 11 through to Sunday evening September 13.

Have you all fixed your car/boat parking at Batson Creek - £20 for three nights including a free harbour licence ?  What a bargain.

If not, please contact the Salcombe Harbour Office at Whitestrand, Salcombe, TQ8 8BU (phone 01548 843791   email  salcombe.harbour@southhams.gov.uk) who will be pleased to receive your cheque.

I have confirmation from the following Wanderers that they are coming.

Unless I have mislaid an email or two, they are:

Jan & Derek Summers

Andrew Kewell and Karen Hampton

Mathew Littlejohn

Mike & Alyson Hamilton

Bob  & Karen Northover

John & Jenny Renouf

Alan & Sue Laight

Gavin & Caroline Barr

Mark  & Carol Skipper

David & Jill Davies

Philip & Jill Meadowcroft

Vicky King

John Talbot & Jean Whittaker

(Unfortunately Paul Soderburg and Ray Tennant and Sue Humphries have had to pull out.)

I have also sent copies of this email to Salcombe-philes like the Wallis’, the Millards (OK, Nick sails a Leader but there’s always got to be one...), the Harveys, and the Warnes.

We are assuming you’ll be in Salcombe by Friday evening in time for the Sunset Barbie at our house Channel View, Grenville Road., Salcombe TQ8 8BJ.   Please let me know if this is not the case.  Please bring , around 7.30pm, your own booze (you know how stingy I am) and  £6 per head for loads of grub.

I am also assuming you are all coming to the Fleet Carvery in the Chart Room at Salcombe YC on the Saturday evening.

The broad plan is to repeat last year’s Saturday “Cruise of the Creeks” (High Water 11.26am neap tides) with a briefing at Batson Slipway at 10.30am on Saturday morning.  A suitable picnic spot for lunch will be found and then cream tea (at £3.75 a head) on board Egremont – the former Mersey ferry and now the home of the Island Cruising Club.   The Carvery kicks off at 7.30pm.   A briefing for Sunday’s racing will be given at Batson Slipway on Sunday morning at 9.45am.

On Sunday, this year we will have two races, starting on the Salcombe YC line in front of the clubhouse at 11.00am and  about 1.00pm (after the last boat has finished in the  SYC Junior Handicap Fleet which starts 10 minutes behind us).  In other words, we’re racing almost back to back but there should be a short break on the beach adjacent to the start/finish line between the races for a quick  loo stop and a sandwich lunch-snack back afloat.   (HW on Sunday is 12.40pm)    The formal Notice of Race (Entry fee £10) is attached to this email and will also be posted on the Wanderer website shortly.      The races, within the harbour, will be part of the series of races qualifying for this season’s Anglo Marine Racing Plate.   The set course  for each race will be planned to take between 60 and 70 minutes – not the usual 130-140 minute length at this venue.

Apart from the £20 charge payable direct to Salcombe Harbour Board, I will collect all other charges from you personally.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact to contact me either by email or mobile (07771 814630).

Cheers.
