WANDERER OPEN 6/7 0CTOBER 2007 - SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
1.
Rules
Racing will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing
(RRS), the prescriptions of the Royal Yachting Association and Class
Associations, as appropriate, except as any of these are changed by these
sailing instructions.
1.1 Racing rules
1.2, 27.1, 29.3, 35, 40, A4 and Racing signal "Y" will be changed as
described below.
2. Entries
Eligible boats, as defined in the
Notice of Race, may be entered by completing registration with BVSC.
3. Notices to Competitors
Notices to competitors will be
posted on the official notice board located at the eastern end of the
Clubhouse.
4. Changes to Sailing Instructions
Any change to the sailing
instructions will be posted a minimum of 30 minutes before the race to which it
first applies.
5. Signals Made Ashore
Signals made ashore will be
displayed on the mast at the Race Box.
6. Schedule of Races
The schedule of races is
advertised in the Notice of Race for the event.
7. Format of Races
7.1
Depending on the number of entries, competing boats may be divided into
fleets for ease of race management.
7.2 Fleets will be started at five minute
intervals in the order indicated on the official notice board.
7.3 The classes in each fleet will be indicated
on the official notice board
7.4 Overall positions may be calculated using
the average lap times procedure detailed in RYA publication YR2.
8. Fleet Flags
8.1 Fleet flags will be drawn from the
following as appropriate:

9. Racing Area
The racing area will be shown on the
official notice board.
10. The Course
10.1 The intended
course will be displayed on the official notice board.
10.2 A revised
course may be indicated on the Committee Boat by the display of predefined mark
identities.
11. Marks
Marks, other than starting and
finishing marks, will be orange inflatable buoys or buoys displaying an orange
flag.
12. The Start
12.1 Races will be started in
accordance with Rule 26
12.2 When a series of fleets is to
be started:
a)
The first start
in each sequence will be for the fleet so indicated on the official Notice
Board.
b)
Subsequent fleets will be started at 5-minute intervals by displaying the
warning signal of that fleet at the starting signal of the preceding
fleet.
12.3 The starting line will be between a staff
displaying an orange flag on the race committee boat at the starboard end and a
staff displaying an orange or white flag on a buoy or boat at the port end.
12.4 In the event that there is a general recall
for any fleet in a sequence of fleets to be started, that fleet will be
re-started after the final fleet in the sequence or any previously recalled
fleet. This changes Rule 29.3
13. The finish
13.1 The finish will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on a
race committee boat and, at the port end, a nearby mark or a buoy displaying a
white flag.
13.2 When the shortened course signal (Flag S or Flag S
with a Fleet Flag) is displayed all signalled boats will be finished on the
next occasion that they cross the finishing line.
14. Declarations
14.1 Within 30 minutes of the last boat in a fleet
to finish each race, or the last race of a sequence of races sailed `back to
back', for each sailed race the helm shall indicate and sign for all penalties
taken on the declaration sheet.
14.2 Competitors who have retired, both before
(DNF) or after finishing (RAF), are requested to mark and sign the declaration
sheet accordingly.
15. Protests
15.1 Protests shall be written on forms available at
the race box and shall be delivered there within 30 minutes after the time of
the last boat's finish in the race concerned or the last race of a sequence of
races sailed back to back containing the race concerned.
15.2 Protest notices will be posted on the
official notice board as soon as possible after the protest time limit to
inform competitors where and when there is a hearing in which they are parties
to a hearing or named as witnesses.
16. Scoring
The Low Point scoring system of
Appendix A for a SHORT series will apply. Each boat's series score will be the total of
her race scores. Discards may be applied in accordance with the Notice of Race
or the Club Programme.
17. Support Boats
17.1 No support boats are to be used with the
exception of those directly under the control of BVSC.
17.2 The crews of all support boats and committee
boats are designated members of the Race Committee.
18. Personal Buoyancy
Adequate
personal buoyancy to a minimum of 50 Newtons shall be worn at all times when
afloat. Flag "Y" will not be
flown. This changes Race Signals 'Y' and Rules 1.2, 27.1 and 40.
