This year, the West Country cruise will be
based from Loe Beach, which is just outside the village of Feock. This
sandy beach offers good launching and recovery, good overnight storage
at a cost of just £15 for the Whitsun weekend. If you would like to make
your own enquiries for a longer stay, phone the beachmaster, Mark Ellis
on: 0781 4223099.
We shall convene at 10.30am on Saturday morning for the briefing in the
café which is on the beach and boasts an excellent cooked breakfast and
other goodies.
Accommodation can be sourced from Falmouth Tourist Information on 01326
312300.
Our first evening meal on Saturday, will be at the Pandora Inn,
Restronguet Creek, Mylor where we have booked a private dining room
overlooking the water. Our second evening will be at the Chain Locker
Pub, which also enjoys an enviable position on the waterfront in
Falmouth. We thought we might try and fit in a visit to the Maritime
Museum before our meal.
Our cruising iternary will obviously be weather dependent, but my idea
for one day is to explore the river up to Malpas, on another day to
cruise into Falmouth docks, where Tim Robertson has kindly suggested we
might be given a conducted tour of the RNLI lifeboat. We can then head
across to St Mawes for one of our cream teas, before returning to Loe
Beach. On another day we will cruise around Pendennis Head, towards the
Helford Passage. Maen Porth beach would make a nice landfall, if we
don’t get quite that far and has another nice cafe.
So, subject to weather, another great cruising weekend for all to enjoy.
I have to book food at both pubs, three days in advance, so for those
who register their interest, I will be contacting you in good time, with
a menu!!
